Say Hello to Prevoo: Use This App Before You Text or Call

By on July 22, 2015

Does the right moment matter?

Sometimes it does. And when it does, it matters a lot.

Move over e-mail—texting is here to stay. Text (including instant messaging) is taking over as our go-to means of communication. We use it for urgent questions and not-so-urgent chitchat. You probably recognize some of these:

Where are you?
Are you okay?
Should I pick up tomatoes or do we already have some?
What’s the name of that shop you mentioned? I’m in the area.
What’s the new Wi-Fi password? (Okay, let’s agree this one is really urgent!)

We might call when it’s important or necessary. But more often, we send a quick text, hoping for a quick reply.

WaitingForText.fwFor the moments when speed matters, Prevoo comes in handy. Think of it as a weather forecast for your calls. You wouldn’t run out the door in shorts without at least a glance at the weather. Prevoo is a forecast of reachability, letting you know when contacts are likely to answer calls or reply to messages. And when they’re not by their phones, you can set up alerts for when they’re back—eliminating the need to text or call every few minutes.

So what is Prevoo? It’s a time-saver. It’s a reassurance-giver. It’s a tool to help you make smarter decisions about how and when to communicate. Check, check, and check!

How does it work?

When you download the Prevoo app, you invite people from your phone’s contacts. They must also have the app for it to work. Once you’re connected with someone on Prevoo, you can see each other’s Reachability Status.

The first thing to know about Prevoo’s Reachability Status is that it’s unlike any other online status. You don’t update your status (this isn’t Facebook). You don’t have to log in to be online (this isn’t Skype). You don’t even have to be using the app. Reachability Status is based entirely on your interaction with your phone. It detects when:

Status Descriptions

You’ll see Reachability Status change in real time. If someone isn’t around their phone, you can choose to be notified when they’re back. You’ll also see their location if it’s shared, giving their status more context.

Don’t believe the technology is that powerful? Give it a try with a friend. Sit with a Prevoo contact—in person or via video call—and watch how quickly your status on their phone changes when you lay yours down still. Ask them to put their phone down. Then tap “Notify Me When Available”. When they pick up their phone, your phone will alert you.

Best of all, Prevoo works on iPhones and Androids all around the world. So if Mom and Dad live in a different time zone, you can provide them with passive reassurance more easily.

Who needs to know my Reachability Status?

There are people—friends, family, colleagues, and service providers—who’d benefit from knowing the best time to reach us. And conversely, when we can’t or don’t want to be reached.

Of course, you have complete control over whom you connect with on the app. You can always delete a Prevoo contact, removing their ability to see your information and your ability to see theirs (our goal is not to make things more awkward with the ex!).

Prevoo is for when you want to hear a voice on the other end of the line. When you want to avoid waking someone up. When you want to get that quick text back.

Think of it as having an extra phone sense.

Ready to give it a try? Prevoo is now available for download globally on iOS and Android. Search for “Prevoo” in the App Store or on Google Play. You can also text yourself a link from PrevooApp.com.
